Beware of New Text Message Scam
News Release Date: May 23, 2024
We want to inform you about a scam currently targeting many individuals. Scammers are sending text messages that appear to be from Wildfire Credit Union, asking if you recently completed a transaction.
Do not respond to these text messages or calls. The scammers are sending these messages to various geographical areas with Wildfire Credit Union branches, hoping to trick someone into providing personal information.
An example of a "smishing" text might say you were just billed $192.63 at Walmart and prompt you to click a link if you did not make this purchase. Many people might react quickly and click the link to correct their billing information, falling into the scammer’s trap.
How to Protect Yourself
The best defense against these scammers is education. Slow down and be cautious! Scammers rely on you acting quickly and without thinking. Remember, no bill or payment needs immediate action.
Importantly, Wildfire Credit Union will never ask for your password or login information over the phone. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information.
